New research on the archaeology of the colonial landscapes of the Caribbean. This volume brings together new research on the archaeology of the colonial landscape of the Caribbean. It focusses on the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and on the British Caribbean: notably Bermuda, Jamaica, Florida, Barbados, Antigua, and especially St. Kitts and Nevis. Chapters cover a wide range of landscapes - domestic, military and industrial - and interests, including the archaeology and architecture of African-Caribbean slavery and emancipation, European settlements, sugar production, burial grounds, cartography, fortifications and trade. ROGER LEECH, President of the Society for Post Medieval Archaeology from 1999-2002, was formerly Head of Archaeology for the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England and is now Visiting Professor in the Department of Archaeology at the University of Southampton. PAMELA LEECH, formerly an archaeologist with English Heritage, was the first-phase editor for the Society for Post Medieval Archaeology's volume Cities in the World and Roger Leech's 2014 English Heritage publication, The Town House in Medieval and Early Modern Bristol.
