Author Oskar Klausenstock?s life has been marked with experiences that have been turbulent, unsteady, and, in some cases, outright violent. He lived in both small towns and cities, with limited educational opportunities. He endured the brutality of World War II and was incarcerated in multiple Nazi concentration camps; at the war?s end, he came to the painful realization that he was the only member of his family still living.
