This book examines how literary texts can be incorporated into teaching practices in an EFL classroom. It takes a multi-faceted approach to how English language teaching and learning can best be developed through presentation and exploration of literary texts.
The book that will directly compete with this volume will be: T Yoshimura and Y Yasuda (eds.) Literature as Inspiration in the English Language Classroom (2013), which is an anthology of empirical studies on and teaching plans for English literature and language educations in Japanese EFL classrooms. This Japanese book, however, focuses on a specific issue and region: the role of English literature in Japan, and is less likely to attract the attention of readership outside Japan.There is currently no other direct competitor to our proposed book as most English books in this field provide general overviews of literature teaching in a language classroom or do not fully examine the actual teaching environment in Japan and the nature of Japanese EFL students.
